Laser scanning solutions include the Leica HDS range with either time of flight or phased based technology that offer survey grade accuracy from stationary platforms out to a range of approx 250 meters, depending on the reflectivity of the target. Long range scanning for quarry's and mining applications, at a price that is comparable to total station technology. Mobile scanning solutions (from MDL) that incorporate both GNSS and IMU technology for capturing sites from any ground or water based moving platform.

Laser Scanning is now a recognised form of data capture and in many cases the preferred data capture option; especially in situations where health and safety is an issue, or where complex sites need to be captured quickly.
